The controversial evangelist Benny Hinn has been reconciled to his ex-wife Suzanne, and is planning to remarry her in December. At least, this is the report I have heard from a friend of a friend who heard Benny announce this in New York City last night.
This is good news indeed! Two years ago I reported on Benny’s “broken heart” when his wife filed for divorce. Last year I wrote that after his divorce he was still ministering. It is clearly for the best for everyone that the couple are reconciled and remarried.
Let us pray that they will have a long and happy new marriage, and that Benny will continue to have a fruitful ministry while being sure to spend adequate time with Suzanne.

Paul, I am not making any value judgments here. I don’t agree that he is a charlatan. I believe there are genuine healings through his ministry, although they are hyped to make them seem greater than they really are. But I don’t like his style, and certainly not his emphasis on money. I hope and pray that this episode with his wife will help to purify and reinvigorate his ministry.
Do not speak against God’s anointed servant. God alone is his judge. He’s done more for the kingdom of God than you probably ever will.
Jan, I take your point. See my post from last year Touch not the Lord’s anointed. I hope that it is not understood as wrong criticism to say that I personally do not like someone’s style or emphasis. But I do need to be careful what I write.
Jan, no one is beyond reproach. If you believe in spiritual equality before God, every godly servant has the potential to be anointed at any given time. And we are all prone to errors that sometimes call for us to be corrected, or even rebuked. And to say that he’s done more for the kingdom of God than another is indeed your own personal judgment of the other person. I would say that you have greatly erred in this respect.
Peter, this is good news and a good post. It reminds me that whoever would marry a divorcee would also virtually destroy any chance there was of reconciliation. And to say that a marriage is beyond reconciliation is almost as if to say that the offending party is beyond forgiveness. This is contrary to the teaching of Jesus that all offences, apart from blasphemy against the Holy Spirit, can be forgiven if repentance is humbly sought. Even murderers and adulterers can be forgiven provided that today is the day of salvation. They are not beyond the scope of God’s forgiveness.

But David still refused to touch him because he was the Lord’s anointed. So to avoid criticising someone because they are the Lord’s anointed by no means implies endorsement of their lifestyle.
Meanwhile I posted this because it was of general interest but had not yet been widely reported, not because I want to endorse Benny.
There is now a statement on Benny Hinn’s website THE RESTORATION OF MY FAMILY HAS BEGUN… But I note that he stops short of announcing a formal remarriage. Perhaps he is responding to the story reported by Charisma News that Suzanne considered the New York announcement premature.
Does Deut 24:4 forbid marrying the same person twice or does that only apply if there has been another marriage between the two?
Dru, I think that only applies if there has been another marriage between the two. I note also that in Benny’s statement on his website he implies that he and Suzanne are still married, that is, he doesn’t seem to recognise the divorce at least in God’s sight. If and when they formally remarry, I guess that will be to settle tax and other legal issues.
I appreciate your blog. This makes me happy. My parents got remarried last october after 12 years of separation and 9 years of divorce. They’re both 64 and in their best season ever together. =D more of reconciliation and restoration in the body of Christ in Jesus name

Marriage has been under great attack by the devil with some even trying to redefine marriage. The bad reports of divorce by Ministers of the Gospel spread like wildfire, therefore it is wonderful to hear good news concerning marriage. I hope this good news of reconciation will be given more coverage than the earlier divorce message.

I just do not like Christians who criticize other Christians. What joy do u get when you do so? If there is something you don’t agree with in your fellow brother or sister in the Lord then intercede for them… unless you don’t believe prayers work. Leave judging to God for He knows every heart and work out your own salvation with fear and trembling. God has not ask you to help Him.

You dwell far too much on “touch not mine anointed”. The anointing?? Repentence and reconciliation can not be based on untruths. Its clear that this entire reconciliation is a ploy for money. His ownly blame was “that he was too dedicated to ministry?” I will never believe that and to cast the blame on Suzanne so he doesn’t look so bad. No doubt, there is more to the story.

The Bond Yet Unbroken:
The first verse of Jeremiah 3 proves, in a striking, indeed, startling way, that God was still MARRIED to DIVORCED Israel. To Israel who had “played the harlot with many lovers” and whom God had already divorced, according to verse eight, God called, “Yet return again to me.” This was a call to His wife, as verse one makes plain: “They say, If a man put away his wife, and she go from him, and become another man’s, shall he return unto her again? Shall not that land be greatly polluted? But thou hast played the harlot with many lovers; yet return again to me, saith the LORD.”
Whereas it was not permitted in Israel for a wife divorced from her husband and remarried to another man to return to her first husband, God called His wife back to Himself, even though she had committed adultery with many companions and even though God had divorced her.
Divorced Israel REMAINED the wife of the LORD.
What is striking, even startling, about this insistence on the maintenance of the marriage and on Israel’s return to her rightful husband is the contrast between God’s marriage to Israel and a law governing the earthly marriages of the Israelites.
Verse one refers to the law concerning divorce and remarriage in Deuteronomy 24:1-4. Deuteronomy 24:1-4 forbade a husband who had divorced his wife, on some other ground than her adultery, to take her back, if a second husband divorced her, or died.
God, however, will take His wife back, even though she gave herself to many lovers and despite the fact that He had given her a bill of divorce.
The law of Deuteronomy 24:1-4 was merely Moses’ tolerance of deviation from God’s original ordinance of marriage on the part of hard-hearted Israelite men. It was a stop-gap measure, somewhat to protect vulnerable women, who otherwise would have been passed around like property.
This was Christ’s analysis of Deuteronomy 24:1-4, and indictment of the kind of people for whom the law was necessary, in Matthew 19:8: “Moses because of the hardness of your hearts suffered you to put away your wives.”
Deuteronomy 24 does not reveal the truth about marriage, divorce, and remarriage. It reveals the wickedness in marriage of hard-hearted, that is, unbelieving, men. The truth about marriage, already in the Old Testament, is revealed in Jeremiah 3:1: Even though He must divorce an unfaithful wife, God MAINTAINED the marriage and CALLED His wife back to Himself.
Verse fourteen of Jeremiah 3 is decisive, and explicit, regarding the question, whether God divorced an original wife so as to annul the marriage and open the way for Himself to marry another.
Addressing faithless, divorced Israel, Jehovah exclaimed, “Turn, O backsliding children, saith the LORD; for I am MARRIED unto you: and I will take you one of a city, and two of a family, and I will bring you to Zion.”
Although His wife was unfaithful, although she committed adultery with numerous lovers, although she was as yet impenitent, and although God had divorced her, God was STILL her husband, and she was STILL His wife. The bill of divorce did not touch, much less dissolve, the marriage bond: “I am MARRIED unto you.”
Indeed, the fact of the marriage is the reason why God called Israel back, as it is the reason why she ought to come back, to live with Him: “For I am married unto you.”

I think that Benny Hinn should not get married again to Christ’s wife- the church. Congratulations pastor Benny. Now LOVE her as promised sir. On the issue of miracles, God can also use charlatans if there are any. The issue is not whether Benny is a charlatan or not but whether the gospel is being preached. If charlatans help to spread the gospel, I would thank God for more charlatans than lazy christians.

Paul, that is interesting material – although we see a slightly different picture in Hosea 1-3, especially 2:2 “she is not my wife and I am not her husband”. But it is not relevant in this case as neither Benny nor Suzanne married anyone else while they were divorced.

Why are Deacons held at higher standards than Pasters? Deacons have to be a man of one wife, having raised his family in good standards. But it seems Pastors don’t have the same rules? Binny Hinn, Paula white, Juanitia Bynum? Same rules in our local Churches. Seems to be more and more adultery in the Pulpits that we forgive but the deacons are out. No second chances
Leah, that’s a good question. I suspect the answer is that pastors are presumed to be either deacons or else elders who are held to similar standards to deacons. It would be gross hypocrisy for any church today to let their pastor get away with behaviour for which they would discipline a deacon.

If you look at his ministry schedule, at least as it was a few years ago, you will see why he and his team need a private jet – and may even save money relative to paying commercial fares for them all.

David, thank you for the clarification. I won’t defend the concept of prayer plaques, except to say that it is an improvement on the common secular charity practice of plaques glorifying the donor.
I don’t know how Billy Graham travelled. Was it in fact always by scheduled airline? I would be somewhat surprised. And I don’t think he ever travelled the world to the extent that Benny Hinn does.
When Benny visits the UK he doesn’t fly into Heathrow, of course, but into an airport like Biggin Hill which specialises in small planes like his. At least this is my memory of the now inaccessible article in The Times which I linked to in a previous post. It would take some research to compare the prices. But Benny and each of his team would have to spend many thousands of dollars a month on air fares to get to the places he visits by public transport. The repayments and running costs of a private jet may well be less.
It is possible to draw a comparison with soap operas (Dallas in the 1980s?). But to be serious, I am delighted if BH and Suzanne have been able to rebuild their relationship to the extent that remarriage is possible. There is forgiveness and restoration in Jesus. To pick up on my observation at the start an earlier thread, I really pray they will have pastoral support and accountability structures which are able to help them rebuild themselves and not to run into difficulties in the future.
On the transport question, as a Trustee and now Hon Treasuer of our Town Centre Chaplaincy, the principles seem clear. IF the business case shows a life cycle balance of advantage, in terms of financial effects and non financial ( e.g. operational benefits with a demanding schedule) then I see no problem with a private jet. At least that is how I would approach such a decision.
Neither do I actually have an issue with any charity being willing to acknowledge with gratitude those who support it. Our local theatre has plaques on most of its seats doing just this. Personally I prefer to do such giving anonymously.
Where I can see red is what comes over at least to a typical British male as high pressure high emotion money requesting (demanding?) routines, “sowing into revival” etc. I have seen them and cringed at Spring Harvest in the past, so it is not just an American thing. I think of Muller and his orphanage and Hudson Taylor with OMF, though sometimes wonder if they may have been too far in the other direction. I must add this is a point of principle. I am not in a position to comment on whether this applies to BH’s ministry.
Thank you, Colin. I agree with almost all you say here. I think there is a different American approach to giving and asking for money, which we Brits find a bit difficult, both in America as I am now and when people, whether Benny Hinn or Spring Harvest, try to import it to the UK.

My views on “sowing into revival” – (christian-speak at its very worst) are identical to those of Colin Heath.
But Benny Hinns pitch for money was that ..if you give a certain amount ( more than $1000 ) then you get a wall sticker in the saloon of his private jet – if you get a wall sticker …then Benny will pray for you.
A man of spiritual integrity (and I have had the privilege of meeting many) would simply say …”if God is calling you to support my ministry financially ..then give what you can”…no added blandishments …no spurious spiritual quid pro quo.

David, you may wish to research re the travels of Benny Hinn. At one time he was in a different country at least once every month. I thought he had slowed down a bit, but his current schedule still has him in ten different countries over the next six months. Billy Graham never did that, he only did a few major crusades a year.
I have just read that Benny and Suzanne are to be remarried on 26th October, with Jack Hayford officiating.
It is also good to read in the same article that Benny will bring more of a family aspect to his ministry.
Why the obsession with Pastor Hinn’s financial well-being?? That has nothing to do with what he does, he is obedient and spreads God’s word and the way through Jesus to the Kingdom of God which by the way costs nothing. He does this full time, so he has money. Why be jealous?? Stop judging, it is not for us to do. Jesus Himself will judge and God alone knows what is in people’s hearts. I pray that God will Bless the Hinn family, I see his failed marriage as a sacrifice and believe that God will restore it to its full glory, Amen.

As one among many who has researched Benny Hinn’s teachings since the early 1990’s, and with all the information on the internet, I am amazed that anyone would dare call him a Christian.
Benny Hinn is guilty of multiple false prophecies. He believes he is a “god” and teaches “nine persons” in the Trinity. He also believes that when Jesus died on the cross, He took on the nature of Satan, sinned, and was born again in hell.
God is against false prophets and false teachers (Jeremiah chapter 23; 2 Peter 2:1-2).
Need proof? I will be glad to provide it. In the meantime, I love you enough to tell you the truth.

Chuck, clearly you don’t include Deuteronomy 24 in your canon of Scripture. But even if you only recognize the New Testament, remarriage is there as well. In 1 Corinthians 7:15 Paul makes it clear that a Christian abandoned by an unbelieving spouse is free to marry again. And in Matthew 5:32 Jesus implies that a man who divorces his wife because of sexual immorality is free to marry again.

Tbh, I am so FED UP of seeing hysterical Christians typing touch not God’s annointed! If Scripture says to help to reconcile and rebuke another, the above is irrelevant. That we are also called to test what we hear, discern what we hear and see, we are also entitled to an opinion, it isn’t always agreeable with everyone. So to the touch not God’s annointed brigade I’d say this, stop attacking people because they have an opinion different from yours.

But where exactly in Scripture does it say that one should rebuke a church leader with whom one does not have a direct relationship? The verses you allude to are about relationships within a local fellowship of believers. So unless you know Benny Hinn personally or are a member of his church and team, you should leave rebuking and reconciling him to those who do.
I agree that we should “stop attacking people because they have an opinion different from yours”, but those people with a different opinion include Benny Hinn.
PS Helen, did you see my post Touch not the Lord’s anointed? There I offer some thoughts on this phrase, its biblical background, and how it is used, and sometimes misused, today.
So what are we to do when a paster is in error of his ways then? (Apart from praying he gets restored…). I was in no way implying one has the authority to rebuke Mr Hinn. In reference to the scriptures I loosely referenced, I was in no way meaning to imply we should judge him. My main point was we are entitled to an opinion. I have seen for myself youtube video of Hinn cursing any who.speak badly about his ministery. That has in it’s self put me off him. That’s not to say God can’t use him.
Helen, I would say nothing except pray – unless you are in a personal accountability relationship with the errant leader. Another exception would be if you had private knowledge of some apparent sin which was not publicly known, in which case you should try to deal with matter privately along the lines of Matthew 18:15-17. But if you simply watch and listen to, or read reports of, what happens in public meetings, then you are not in a position to react to that, beyond I suppose not recommending others to attend, for example, Hinn’s meetings.

Please bear in mind that neither Jesus or His apostles had a “personal accountability relationship” with the Pharisees and false teachers of their day. They recognized sin and false teachings, exposed it publicly and, in many cases, named the names of those who were teaching falsely.
And Christians are commanded by Scripture to do the same (Romans 16:17-18; Ephesians 5:11-12; 2 Corinthians 6:14-18; 2 Timothy 4:1-5; Acts 20:27-31).
Throughout the Old Testament, God has zero tolerance for false teachers and false prophets. One example is Jeremiah chapter 23, where God is “against” false prophets. In the New Testament, Jesus warns us to “beware” of false prophets, and calls them “ravenous wolves” (Matthew 7:15-20). In the same passage of Scripture, Jesus said we would know the difference between true and false prophets by their fruits.
In Galatians 1:6-9, the Apostle Paul warns that those who preach a false gospel are under a divine curse from God. And, in 2 Peter 2:1-3, false teachers and false prophets are doomed for destruction.
Benny Hinn and many others within the Word of Faith movement are documented false teachers and false prophets. God tells us to stay away from them and expose them, for the purpose of sharing the truth and guarding the flock.

Bud, do you think you have the same authority as Jesus? But even he refrained from calling out Pharisees by name, but limited himself to general warnings and condemnations.
Romans 16:17-18: keep away from them, not condemn them publicly.
Ephesians 5:11-12: avoid and expose sins, not condemn sinners by name.
2 Corinthians 6:14-18: again, separate from them, not condemn them.
2 Timothy 4:1-5: surely primarily at least about Timothy’s preaching in the churches under his authority.
Acts 20:27-31: be on your guard, but no suggestion of condemning individuals.
2 Peter 2:1-3: God will deal with false teachers, and it is presumptuous of us to attempt his work.
Peter:
Only Jesus has all authority in heaven and earth (Matthew 28:18). However, God gives the believer authority in certain areas. Study Titus chapter 2, and pay particular attention to verse 15, which states, “These things speak and exhort and reprove with all authority. Let no one disregard you.”
Further, Christians are authorized by God to minister to fellow Christians and witness to the lost. For example, in 2 Timothy 4:1-5, the Apostle Paul charged Timothy with a great responsibility to “preach the word; be ready in season and out of season; reprove, rebuke, exhort, with great patience and instruction.”
A building inspector is authorized by the state to condemn buildings that are dangerous and unfit for human habitation. God authorizes Christians through His written word to condemn false teachings, sin, and lifestyles that are unfit and dangerous to the spiritual welfare of the believer.
Also, keep in mind that God charges, commands, and authorizes Christians to:
— test all things and try the spirits (1 Thessalonians 5:21; 1 John 4:1)
— preach the word whether convenient or inconvenient (2 Timothy 4:1-2)
— guard, protect, and warn fellow Christians (Acts 20:27-31)
— boldly defend the faith (1 Timothy 6:12; Jude 3)
— expose the unfruitful works of darkness and expose those who promote it(Ephesians 5:11-12; 2 Corinthians 4:4)
— tell the truth in love, even if it offends (Ephesians 4:14-15)
— judge righteously (Hebrews 5:14; Proverbs 31:9; Psalm 82:3; Matthew 18:15-17; John 7:24; Acts 20:27-31; Galatians 1:6-9; Galatians 2:11-14; 1 Corinthians 5:12-13; 1 Timothy 5:20; 2 Timothy 4:1-2; Ephesians 4:14-15; Ephesians 5:11-12; Jude 1:3).

Check out 3 John 1:9-10, where John criticizes Diotrephes for “unjustly accusing us with wicked words”.

Bud, a building inspector is authorized by a state to condemn buildings within the border of that state and for which he has been given responsibility by the state, and to condemn them on the basis of a thorough inspection. He is not authorized to condemn buildings on the other side of the world on the basis of unconfirmed reports and potentially misleading photos. China has its own building inspectors, or should have, and an American building inspector does not have authority to require buildings in China to be pulled down. You can judge the implications of that for Christians who try to pull down Christian ministries.

Bud, if, as you apparently expect, Benny Hinn’s ministry is pulling itself down, then it doesn’t need any help from you. If you can’t build him up as a brother in Christ, then you should keep quiet.

using discernment…and having a heart wholly for Jesus…I am certain that Benny Hinn is not my brother in Christ…but I have known his followers that certainly are Brothers and Sisters in Christ…and dear ones at that…so it grieves my spirit that he does effect me closely…and every one of us who asks what it means to be a Christian and strives for that effect.
Lightheaded, I believe that God does give people spiritual discernment, but not that he does so to allow them to make public pronouncements that any individual is “not my brother in Christ”. That judgment is his divine prerogative. He gives you discernment for what you should do. If that is for you to keep away from Benny Hinn’s ministry, then I would not dispute that guidance.
well i’m glad Mr. Hinn is getting back with his wife … proof enough for me that marriage today is so very hard sometimes and it can take its toll anywhere and on anyone … but great blessings he has decided to do this I wish him the very best and prayers for him and his wife. He is a good preacher, very deep sometimes and sometimes so simple it still ends up being always great sermons that edify, teach, bless ,and heal. I hope I have a chance to see Him on Dec 7.

Benny’s current Family Update implies that he and Suzanne have delayed their remarriage to allow more time for them to be “enjoying our courtship, communicating more openly than ever before, and standing in amazement as our precious Lord Jesus heals the pains of the past.” I hope and pray that this is a genuine period of rebuilding their relationship which will soon end in a new and stronger marriage.

“Touch not the Lord’s anointed” indeed – that was reserved for OT Kings and Prophets only ~ and in the NT we share (only share) the anointing of Christ who is the anointed One of God, we do not take it for ourselves. Finally, Benny Hinn’s loud proclamation at his rallies and crusades “take the anointing” (and we all fall down) is pure kundalini driven nonsense and would be laughable if it were not so spiritually dangerous to the observers (I have seen him at work at the Albert Hall London ages ago) Avoid him and all of the same ilk.
Abraham, have you read my post Touch not the Lord’s anointed? That would be a better place to discuss this phrase.
Also, have you read 1 John 2:20,27? Those verses show that we have our own anointing, given by God and not separate from that of Christ, but it is still something we have received and which remains in us. So I am afraid your statement “we do not take it for ourselves” is wrong, at least unless you intend “for ourselves” only in the sense “selfishly”.

Am a Christian, having read most of the above posted make me realise what that the Lord Jesus said if a house is divided how can it stand, I think such is the state of churches in our days, criticising each other, this one says I am better that one does not like Pastor x etc.. Is all that is remained? When Jesus is looking at His body which is the church, He cannot see the body but dismantle parts of the body. There was crisis in the early churches too. But can we not stand united, putting our differences aside. We are supposed to bring hope for those hopeless in the world, that why The Lord said what if the salt loses it’s flavour. The Lord Jesus will come and rightly say where is love?? Everyone is busy criticising no one is bothered about the His Kingdom!

When He bent to write in the dirt.. An He asked who without sin can cast the first stone? What do you think He wrote for the men to read over His shoulder? He wrote those mens sins! The bible does not permit us to remarry a divorced wife when the woman has married or had sex with another man when she divorced,Suzanne did not remarry neither did she have sex with another man so the can marry,
I dont think that a remarriage is necessary.She has always been his wife.he put his wife away .no one took and and he is taking his own thing back why a remarriage.
The devil is attacking the family of pastors with family problem.I dont know.Did Benny divorce Suzanne or did Suzzane divorce Benny?In the bible a woman cannot divorce the man.It is the man who took the wife and the man can divorce divorce.Like the employer employee only the employer can dismiss the employee cannot sack the employer,Sometimes we must recognize that the bible is not a western custom.
Thank you, Pastor Linck. I am interested in how you attempt to follow rules from “the bible”, by which I think you mean the Old Testament law. Does your church practice animal sacrifices? Does it stone adulterers to death? In practice no one lives by that law, but all update it to fit modern life, not to mention the teaching of Jesus.
Anyway, whatever the Bible says, according to the secular law in force where Suzanne and Benny live Suzanne was able to divorce Benny, and they have to go through a new wedding ceremony to be recognised in law as a married couple. So they are doing this not for God so much as to obey the law of the land, which God expects us to do.
Peter has engaged with the theological issues raised by Pastor Linck. I felt the comparison with employment was false. Yes the employer can dismiss an employee. But the employee can dismiss the employer – it is called resigning. I am not the only one in the Western world to have done that!
Colin, I considered the comparison between marriage and employment to be offensive to women, as well as inaccurate. But it is perhaps true to the caricature “biblical” society which Pastor Linck apparently aspires to, where a woman was more or less bought and sold as a slave. There are many other things in that society which would be both inaccurate, relative to true Bible teaching, and offensive to women.
I find some of the comments interesting . I think sometimes we confuse judging with condemning someone. And people seem to forget that correction ,active criticism as well as rebuke are all part of judging . We judge the characters and action of men not the men themselves.God is the only one who can judge and condemn a man. People forget that men sin and make mistakes whether anointed or not but God does not take back his blessings or gifts but rather we lose them. And those accusing him, Pastor Benny Hinn is still preaching and touching lives , are you doing the same? Do you go for soul winning and evangelism, do you pray for the saints as Paul said we should?? If his messages are a problem, kindly pray for him and those who hear him while preaching the gospel to others. That I believe will solve some problems if not most.
