How big is my God?

This is the question Tim Chesterton asks. He recommends getting out into the mountains to get something of the right perspective:

I tend to do my praying in small rooms, and I’ve discovered that if you do that, it’s very easy to think of God as a being who spends his time in small rooms. Then you climb the Edith Cavell Meadows trail and find yourself beside this simply enormous mountain, and you’re reminded that if creation is this big, then its Creator must be bigger yet.

Just from Tim’s photos of Jasper National Park in Canada I can start to get the idea of the wonder of God’s creation. Sadly we have nothing remotely like it here in Essex, but even here it can be good to get out into the green countryside to spend time with the Creator.

  1. Growing up in Alaska was unique in so many ways, but especially that there is no broader canvas of creation to witness and marvel at. This photo gallery has a small selection of the photos I took when we returned a few years ago for some family time and sightseeing at Mt. McKinley (Denali) – pretty hard to not be awed by the God of the Mountain!

  2. Yes, the Essex countryside is beautiful, Peter. I loved every minute of my six days down there this past summer. I particularly enjoyed walking from Bradwell Waterside to St. Peter’s Chapel under the huge sky.

I’ve spent many years living on the Canadian prairies, far away from the mountains. I’ve sometimes thought, when I’ve been watching three separate thunderstorms moving in three different places in the huge sky, that this is a particularly awesome way of watching the hand of God at work!

Thanks for the link, my friend.

  3. ElShaddai, thanks for the beautiful pictures. Alaska is another place I would love to visit – but only in summer!

Yes, Tim, Essex skies can be amazing. Around Chelmsford it’s too hard to get away from houses, power lines etc. Perhaps I should do more.
